Green Kitchen Remodel

For the kitchen phase of the project we took out a wall separating a 10x10 kitchen from a 10x10 dining room to create one big kitchen with an eating space measuring 10x20.  We removed the damaged floor and replaced it with 2'x4' plywood "tiles" stained a warm walnut in a brick pattern.  The back-splash was created using common subway tiles, placed on the vertical end to end.  We also installed plywood shelves to help keep the space as open as possible and replaced many of the IKEA cabinet fronts with Europly which we also used between the cabinets and the appliances.  At this point we have replaced 1 of 2 windows with an energy efficient window and trimmed it out with more Europly (we plan to trim all the windows out this way to cut down on labor and it is a great use for "scrap" plywood.

Below is a list of green materials used:

Paperstone counters, IKEA cabinets, FSC Certified plywood (Europly and Baltic birch), ceramic tile, Energy Star appliances and windows, sustainably harvested butcher block counter for the Island and a vintage teak table for the eating area.
